Blog Post #5

****Use caution of your surroundings when viewing, this video contains the use of strong language.****

How are drugs portrayed in this video?
-What tools do the authors use to modify how a person may receive the message?
-What other details are you seeing or hearing that may further modify how viewers receive the portrayal of drugs?

Does there appear to be a target audience?
Are there suggestions that may attempt to identify the type of people who becomes active in the involvement of drugs, if so, what are they and how are they implied?
Is there a relationship between the two actors having fun among themselves and the business that may appear to be failing?

  1. In this video the drugs were portrayed as a joke. It emphasized that when they were young, they two babies atmospheres were really bad which lead them to be really bad as they got older. They turned into pothead and role models to the younger kids as they grew up, selling them drugs, but in such a joking matter it didn't seem serious at all. This targets the youth because i think that how we see it as, a big old joke and it wont really a big affect on one individual. The author took the more humors role unlike all the other blogs that were just serious about the cause and effect on drugs.

  2. In response to the questions

The drugs were portrayed as another section of the business, as though there was access to drugs on the outside of the convenience store just as easily as it was to walk in and grab cigarettes or a bag of chips. I think this message is received through the dialogue after the song bytes. There's the portrayal of teenagers going to a shop, the presence of the law, and the position of a cashier. These are all parts of a stereotypical trip to a convenience store. The drugs are now perceived as another facet in the trip to the shop, because of the absence of risk associated with the humorous video clip (before the police officer arrives). There is a target audience in mind throughout the duration of this video. Teenagers were the target of this video because of the unnecessary vulgarity and the fictitious comedy which both are pieces of evidence that would suggest this is a teen movie. There is a relationship between the drug dealers, evident in their careless mannerisms and illegal activities that are considered humorous to the youth, and a nuisance to the store clerks.
